On top of these, you will also be able to apply vertex adjustments (scale, rotate, move) as well as triangulations and polygon reduction.Īrtisan Plugin for SketchUp comes with all that is needed in order to generate organic models and can be a precious asset for artists, designers and engineers. More options are made available inside the Tools menu, where it creates a new entry.Ī quick summary of its most important highlights includes subdivide and smooth controls, crease selection and knife subdivide, complemented by a collection of brushes for sculptures and paintings. However, during our tests, it failed to do so and we had to provide guidance by hand.Īrtisan Plugin for SketchUp becomes available inside a small toolbar that provides access to common functions. The program should detect the Plugins directory of SketchUp by default in order to make the necessary accommodations by itself. This way, deployment succeeds with very few efforts on the user side. The focus falls on handling complex geometry and on generating organic models that stand out.Īrtisan Plugin for SketchUp targets mainly organic modelling and addresses engineers that are looking for a streamlined way of designing furniture, terrains, sculptures, curtains, fabric, plants, trees, to name just a few.Īs opposed to similar products that usually come in the form of archived RBS files, Artisan Plugin for SketchUp adopts a more convenient approach by automating the installation procedure. I will say that a tool like this is very promising, especially for models where all the vertices are slightly off axis – this might be able to fix them very quickly.Artisan Plugin for SketchUp is a graphic add-on destined to enhance the functionality of SketchUp by enriching it with subdivision manipulations, brush tools and Vertex transformations. I think this is probably user error on my part, and it may be doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. My understanding of the way they’re supposed to work is that they’re supposed to take a series of edges and set them so that the vertices are aligned on certain axes, but I keep getting weird results. The last set of tools are a bit confusing to me. Again – very useful for CAD files Make Vertices Colinear This can be very useful for shrinking the size of your model, but be careful as it will also make your curves less smooth. Simplify curves reduces the number of edges contained in your curves in your model. If any of you have a more comprehensive description of how exactly this works, please leave a comment below □ Simplify Curves Erase Stray CurvesĮrase stray curves seems to erase curves that don’t seem to be part of complete edge loops. For example, a tolerance of 3/8” will fill in all gaps 3/8” and smaller. Setting the tolerance will allow you to adjust how far the extension is willing to go to fill in gaps. This is MASSIVELY useful when working with CAD files that you’ve imported. From there, you can use the next tool, close all edge gaps, to fill in these gaps. It will then highlight these gaps within your SketchUp model. Inspect and close edge gaps is a very useful tool that analyzes your model and looks for gaps between edges. One cool function of this feature is that it will split a face on either side of an opening as long as the face is uninterrupted. This can be especially useful if you’re trying to split a face with a line parallel to one of the edges. Split faces allows you to split up faces within your model based on the face’s edges. As with most of Thom Thom’s tools, these seem to be tools that he designed for use himself, then made available as an extension to everyone else. It is great to use for subdivision modeling by the use of a friendly and practical interface. Artisans has awesome and efficient organic modeling tools that help designers perfect their creations. This extension contains a suite of tools designed for doing different things with Edges within SketchUp. The Artisan plugin for SketchUp offers next-generation features to your SketchUp program, including improved sculpting and subdivision tools. Where can you get it? You can download it from the SketchUp extension warehouse Edge Tools Functions If so, please consider supporting me on Patreon (click here to support) or by visiting my Support the Show Page!
